Town officials not happy with MBTA

Town Administrator Bill Keegan wrote a letter to the MBTA on behalf of selectmen and Dedham town staff saying they don't want to see cuts in services and they don't want to see increases in fares.

MBTA officials have been saying that both a decrease in services and an increase in fares are unavoidable because the public transit organization has too much debt and not enough revenue.

"The primary riders of the buses and beneficiaries of the bus and private carrier service are the seniors and youth of our community," Keegan wrote. "Without question, they are the most vulnerable segment of our population and they are the ones who will suffer the greatest impact from these proposed cuts and who have the least amount of resources to seek alternative transportation options."
