Is Dedham one of the 100 best communities for young people? It’s in the running.

The Dedham Youth Commission submitted an application to America’s Promise Alliance to be considered for the “100 Best Communities for Young People” competition.

The application mentioned the efforts of the Dedham Youth Commission, Dedham School Department, Dedham Parks & Recreation and other local organizations.

Winners are awarded a trophy, signs and a $2,500 grant.

America’s Promise Alliance will be hosting a live awards show and webcast on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from noon to 12:30 p.m. and Dedham will be hosting a watch party at Dedham Middle School. More than 30 middle school students who participated in this summer’s College Bound Program will be there, along with Town Administrator William Keegan and school and youth commission staff.

Now in its sixth year, the 100 Best Communities for Young People is an annual competition that rewards and recognizes communities making efforts to reduce dropout rates and provide services and supports for their youth.
