First Time Homebuyer Workshop, sponsored by Quincy Community Action Program, will take on place on the following evenings: Thursday, Sept. 4, Tuesday, Sept. 9, and Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Tufts Library, 46 Broad St., Weymouth. People must attend all three sessions to receive a certificate of attendance, which is a prerequisite for down payment closing cost assistance, favorable soft second and Mass Housing mortgages. Sessions are open to everyone regardless of income, credit ratings or down payment availability. Participants will receive a workbook that contains references that pertain to home buying. Norwell Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Inc. will offer an eight-week bereavement support group open to South Shore residents who have suffered the loss of a loved one within the past year. The group will start Friday, Sept. 5, and meet for eight consecutive Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Norwell VNA and Hospice, 91 Longwater Circle, Norwell. The Landmine Classic Mountain bike race takes place at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept 7, at Wompatuck State Park, in Hingham. A 25-mile course for sport, expert, and semi pro/pro riders has been put together. Beginners will have a challenging 11-mile course to race on. Operation A.B.L.E. Career Fair & Networking event for Mature Workers 45+ Job seekers age 45 and older will soon have another opportunity to meet employers at a career fair and networking event designed just for them. Operation A.B.L.E. of Greater Boston will host a Mature Worker Career Fair & Networking Event on Monday, Sept, 8, at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Boston. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Arlington Room on the hotel’s sixth floor.

 

The Helen Bumpus Gallery presents an exhibit by Nancy Coveney “Abstract Expressions" at a reception to be held at the Gallery on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. the artist will discuss her work and answer questions about her techniques. New Beginnings, a non-profit, non-sectarian support organization for single, widowed, separated and divorced men and women, has helped more than 9,700 south shore residents start a new life over the past 20 years.
