The Firehouse Center for the Arts’ Vacation Week Theater Program is now accepting applications. The week-long intensive program in theater, performance and play-writing for students Grades 6-10 will be taught by instructor Bonnie-Jean Wilbur Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Arakelian Theater in the Firehouse, Market Square, Newburyport.

Areas of instruction will include advanced acting technique, scene study, improvisation, elements of stage craft, self-scripted performance, play-writing for actors, ensemble play-making and audition technique. Bonnie-Jean Wilbur looks forward to meeting with the students on the first day to assess interests and background, to best ensure that the week meets the needs of this particular group.

Bonnie-Jean Wilbur is a staple of the theater community as a performer, director and costumer. She received her Bachelor of Arts in theater arts from Hampshire College and completed an internship in Drama in Education with Dorothy Heathcott at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. Most recently seen on the Firehouse stage in “It's a Wonderful Life,” and this past summer in “The Flies,” produced by Theater in the Open, Wilbur has quite an extensive resume. She has experience working with youth of all ages, and costumes the theatrical productions at Governor's Academy. This event is produced by the Firehouse and funded in part by an anonymous donor.

Tuition is $199 per student, and enrollment is limited to 14 students only. Those interested may call Beth Falconer at 978-499-9931 or send her an email at beth@firehouse.org . Enrollment forms and additional information are also available online at firehouse.org
