Well-known professional artist William Maloney will be the guest demonstrator for the Norwood Art Association meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Simoni Room at the Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood at 6:45 p.m.

These meetings are free and open to the public and the audiences are given the opportunity to watch a painting being created from scratch. The demonstrating artist usually begins with a blank canvas or paper and completes a painting, often describing techniques, discussing the materials used, and answering questions.

Arts lovers who do not paint find the program very interesting and painters get to benefit, learning new ways to create works of art. Each artist has his or her own style and it is fascinating to watch and pick up new ideas from talented professional artists as they explain how they work.

Maloney plans to demonstrate in oil, but he is also known for his watercolors, and his style is impressionistic. Wherever he and his wife travel, he takes his paints, and therefore, there is a wide variety of subject matter, from the coast of New England to the landscapes of Ireland, Germany, France, and Italy.

Maloney is a Massachusetts native and has been a professional artist for over 40 years. A graduate of Massachusetts College of Art with a degree in painting, he was the art director of Raytheon Company until he retired. He also studied under the internationally-known artist Don Stone.
