Firehouse receives NEFA grant

The Firehouse Center for the Arts has received a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts’ New England States Touring program. The Firehouse Center for the Arts will be using NEFA funds to help underwrite the cost of presenting Shakesperience Productions, Inc.’s performance of “Hamlet.”

Firehouse offers Vacation Week Theater Program

The Firehouse Center for the Arts’ Vacation Week Theater Program is now accepting applications. The week-long intensive program in theater, performance and play-writing for students Grades 6-10 will be taught by instructor Bonnie-Jean Wilbur Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Arakelian Theater in the Firehouse, Market Square, Newburyport.

Calling all quilters — and vendors — for quilt show in Peabody

On April 21-22, the Peabody Historical Society will present “Uncommon Threads 2012: A Celebration of Quilts, Old & New.” This exhibition will feature antique and contemporary quilts that are inspired by traditional quilting patterns and techniques. Rarely exhibited quilts from the society’s collection and from museums, private collections, guilds and quilters across the North Shore will be on display during this two-day event. Uncommon Threads will also feature vendors from local quilting, sewing, and needlework shops; heirloom quilt appraisals; quilting demonstrations and much more. The event will take place Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at the society’s Smith Barn, 38 Felton St.

PHS is seeking quilt submissions. Quilters, local guilds and quilting groups that have created a quilt inspired by a traditional quilting pattern or technique, or who have an antique quilt that fits this theme, are invited to exhibit in Uncommon Threads.
