I read with interest the article “New Lux Cinema a Showstopper?” on the front page of the Oct. 22, 2009 issue of The Dedham Transcript. Since that article ran, there has been a lot of buzz about the decline in business at the Dedham Community Theatre and the effect it will have on Dedham Square if this trend continues. I wanted to take this opportunity to shed some light on this issue.

The new clock promises to be a landmark for Dedham Square and a testament to the patience of the many businesses in that area that endured the bridge construction for over four years.
Investigators are looking into the death of a 38-year-old inmate at South Middlesex Correction Center. Kelly Donovan was pronounced dead at 3:58 a.m. Dec. 3 at the Western Ave. facility, after a roommate noticed she was having trouble breathing at 3:43 a.m.

Norfolk County RSVP Volunteer Program is recruiting volunteers to work at a wildlife art gallery located just south of Boston. Duties include welcoming visitors to the gallery and providing basic information to visitors. Volunteer must have good communication skills, a professional appearance, and the ability to work independently. Minimum time commitment is one 2-hour period per week in the afternoon between Tuesday and Friday. Volunteers are asked to make an initial 6-month commitment.

Six notable Dedhamites are polishing their moves before Saturday night’s “Dancing With the Dedham Stars,” the popular Dedham Educational Partnership fundraiser. Over 750 tickets have been sold (and no more are available) for the second annual event, being held at Moseley’s on the Charles. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show stars at 8. Bob Coughlin will again emcee. Returning as judges are Donna Baressi, owner of Dance Time in Dedham, and Peter Zahka; the new judge this year is another local attorney, Kevin Hampe.
At first pass, Jason Alonzi of b. good at Legacy Place does not seem too concerned about the higher meals tax coming to town Jan. 1.

Special Town Meeting gave the Avery School and Dedham High School athletic complex projects key votes of support, upped Dedham’s meals and hotel taxes and voted to move the town’s adult zoning to Legacy Place this week.
At an otherwise smooth mini-Town Meeting, two Finance Committee members renewed their disagreement about possible hike to hotel and meals taxes, with Derek Moulton questioning how the money would be used if devoted to a major capital facilities stabilization fund.
